Home / Infertility Treatment / IUI
IUI treatment is a fertility procedure where specially prepared sperm is placed directly inside the uterus around the time of ovulation. This helps the sperm reach the egg more easily and increases the chance of pregnancy. It is often suggested for couples with mild fertility issues, unexplained infertility, or ovulation-related concerns.
When hope feels delayed, the right fertility care can bring clarity. At Petals Health, couples receive supportive IUI care designed around their health, cycle, and pregnancy goals. Schedule an appointment today.

| Point of Difference | IUI Treatment | IVF Treatment |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Prepared sperm is placed directly inside the uterus during ovulation. | Eggs and sperm are combined in a lab, and the embryo is placed inside the uterus. |
| Procedure type | Simpler and less invasive. | More advanced and involves multiple steps. |
| Best suited for | Mild male fertility issues, unexplained infertility, irregular ovulation, or cervical factor infertility. | Blocked fallopian tubes, severe male infertility, low ovarian reserve, endometriosis, or repeated IUI failure. |
| Use of medicines | May be done naturally or with mild fertility medicines. | Usually requires hormonal injections to stimulate egg production. |
| Egg retrieval needed | Not needed. | Required before fertilisation in the lab. |
| Fertilisation happens | Inside the body. | Outside the body in a laboratory. |
| Time required | Usually shorter and simpler. | Takes more time because of scans, injections, egg retrieval, fertilisation, and embryo transfer. |
Step-1
The doctor reviews the couple’s medical history, menstrual cycle, previous pregnancy attempts, and basic fertility concerns.
Step-2
Ovulation tracking, ultrasound scans, hormone tests, and semen analysis may be advised to understand the right treatment plan.
Step-3
The woman’s cycle is monitored through scans to check follicle growth and identify the best time for IUI.
Step-4
The sperm sample is collected and processed in the lab to select healthy, active sperm for the procedure.
Step-5
The prepared sperm is gently placed inside the uterus using a thin catheter around the time of ovulation.
Step-6
A short rest may be advised after the procedure. Most women can return to normal activities the same day.
Step-7
A pregnancy test is usually advised after about two weeks to check whether the treatment has been successful.
Mild cramping or slight discomfort may be felt, but most women feel fine soon after the procedure.
Normal daily activities can usually be resumed unless the doctor advises rest.
Light spotting, bloating, or mild pelvic heaviness may occur and usually settle on their own.
Some women may notice breast tenderness, mood changes, or mild bloating due to hormonal changes.
A pregnancy test is usually advised to check whether the treatment has worked.
The doctor guides the next step based on the result, whether it is pregnancy care or another fertility plan.
